Sorry for the week long hiatus, it's been a really rough week. But I'm in the Puberty Sucks Headquarters on a Saturday just to make sure we maintain the proper amount of hormonal angst into the cyber-ether.
Today we have a special treat, my good friend Lynn Chen has submitted a story of heartbreak and hope. And better yet, the setting is Band Camp. What more could you ask for? For those of you that don't know, Lynn was one of the stars of Alice Wu's film "Saving Face." She is an amazing actress with talent that almost matches how cool she is as a person. Look for her in the upcoming films "Platonically," "Mentor," and "The Inevitable Undoing of Jay Brooks." She also has a guest role in the forthcoming NBC sit-com "The Singles Table" opposite John Cho. You can find out more about her at www.lynnchen.com (or by reading on here...)
As I had stated before, we are not alone. Puberty sucked for most of us. To prove it, this is the first in a series of guest posts. I am psyched about this one because it is a woman's point of view. My friend and choreographer Maura Donohue has given a great story about dating the most popular kid in school.
Check it out...
Sorry, it's been so slow around here recently. Opening a movie theatrically in New York seems to take a little more time out of one's life than I had anticipated. By the way, if you are in New York, you have until Tuesday July 11 to check out the film at Film Forum. We also open in LA and Pasadena on July 28th You can always check for more info on that at http://www.themotel-film.com.
But back to the more important matters of that suckiness of puberty. As promised, I have more guest posters lined up. Today's guest comes via a questionaire I sent out a little while ago asking friends to give their input into why puberty does indeed suck. To prove my point that this is a unviersal truth, I present to you a perspective very different from my own -- Erin Greenwell, a lesbian filmmaker in New York. Erin is currently doing the festival tour with her feature film "Mom" which most recently played this past weekend at Outfest. (sorry for not getting this post up earlier to warn you of this screening, but if you are in LA,you have one more chance to catch it on July 15 at the DGA theater.)
Now without further adieu, Erin Greenwell on Puberty...
