Wait. Cut! When did your Formica counters and ragtag canister “set” become Kitchen Stadium?

Easy. You hit Sawicki’s, the new high-end butcher shop and specialty store in Decatur. Owner Lynne Sawicki, the eight-year Star Provisions/Bacchanalia vet, has brought her savvy crosstown for eastsiders who can’t make regular treks to Howell Mill.

You’ll have your pick of star goods like butter and yogurt sourced from five nations; local produce and Sweet Grass Dairy cheese; and savory jams, jellies, and barbecue sauces. But the meat and fish are the real showstoppers: grass-fed beef, pork, poussin, and fresh-caught Alaskan halibut, to name just a few.

Hungry? Munch on hummus salad or a pressed Cuban while you wait, then grab a larger-than-life lemon poppyseed cupcake (topped with — mmm — strawberry buttercream) for the road.
