Kentucky Watercolor
Society
Welcome to the Kentucky Watercolor Society!  You'll
discover the many activities we offer as you browse through our web pages: upcoming
workshops, competitions, membership information, and our artists' gallery!
Click here to see our July newsletter.
The Kentucky Watercolor Society was formed in 1977 to
promote watercolor as an important medium in the arts
community and provide support and educational
opportunities for the watercolor artist. To that end we
sponsor exhibitions, competitions and workshops for the
professional, hobbyist, and beginning artist. We are a
non-profit, nationally recognized, all-volunteer organization.
The KWS has grown to over 400 members across the
United States. We have gained national prominence with
our juried Aqueous USA competition. In the 2008
Aqueous USA, the awards totaled $10,000.00, and over
10 pictures were purchased from the show.

En Plein Air
Following in the steps of the masters in centuries past, many of our
Kentucky Watercolor artists choose to work en plein air - in the open
air. We have two groups. One paints on the first and third Tuesdays
of the month, and the other paints on Saturdays. They each follow a
similar format: meet at a given location at about 9:30, paint until
Some choose to stay the afternoon to finish a painting or start a new
one. Others call it a day and leave. The locations are often in
Jefferson County, and sometimes in other locations around central
Kentucky. These groups are open to all members of the Kentucky
Watercolor Society. They maintain an interactive email list for
discussion and keeping up to date on where the next location will
be. Any KWS member who would like to be on the list should contact
Connie Kuhn, the list moderator. For more details on any of the
below activities, go to

January 3, 2012. The second meeting will be held at Lynn's Paradise
Cafe January 17. Contact Leslie Witten for details.
